Rachel Hansen Official Bio

Rachel L. Hansen was born in 1969, in Aurora, Illinois. After a multi-state escapade before the age of 1, Ms. Hansen landed in South Texas. Raised by a single parent during the tumultuous and societal changing times of the ‘70’s, Ms. Hansen quickly turned to the adventures found between book covers. Reading everything she could get her hands on, sparked her desire to create.

Writing became her passion early in the form of song, creating fun and imaginative stories to hum to herself during chores and while working in her mother’s print shop. She wrote tales of her numerous adventures on the beach and of the life that she envisioned for herself.

Ms. Hansen thought it wise to depart high school, 6 weeks prior to graduation in the mid ‘80’s, for a trip, with two friends, 1500 miles into Mexico and then across the western United States. That excursion altered her life in many ways, one of which was forfeiting a college scholarship as a National Honor Society student. A decision most deemed stupid, at best, was one she will never regret.

After starting an entry-level drafting position in land surveying, at the age of 19, Ms. Hansen realized she had found her career path. Her love of outdoors blended perfectly with her adoration of legal matters, science, math, and history – all wrapped up in the neat package of land surveying.

The Mexico decision had its later repercussions, as she would later discover. Wanting to advance her career, to become licensed in surveying, required a college degree. While working full time, she attended night classes for five years, at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas; graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2010. At the age of 43, she became a Registered Professional Land Surveyor, in the State of Texas; at the time, only 1% of which, were female.

Ms. Hansen’s rugged upbringing and wild adventures, make her stories jump to life as she portrays tales based on the faces, cultures, foods, experiences, and places from her vivid past. Get ready for a fun ride!
